Bridesmaids

So Jess and I went to go see Bridesmaids starring Kristen Wiig. The movie was alright. I think Universal Studios was trying to market the movie to be a "The Hangover" like movie. It was no like that at all. It was also not really a romantic comedy either. Kristen Wiig plays Anne, a down on her luck women who is going to be the Maid of Honor in her best friend Lillian's (Mya Rudolph) wedding. There were a few funny parts but over all, I felt like I was drifting through it. The movie felt like it was building up to what the Bachelorette Party was going to be, and it was nothing. The movie felt like it dragged on from there. It was obvious to me, that they had fun making the movie, but I do not enjoy the blatant "ad-libbed" dialog that tends to be prominent in comedies today. It just feels like the actors are trying to say anything they can think of to try to make the others in the scene crack up. I blame Judd Apatow for that. The character Megan, played by Melissa McCarthy (never seen her in anything before), seemed way to much like Zack Galifianakis' character in "The Hangover". It was nice to see the dude that plays Roy in "The IT Crowd" (Chris O'Dowd) in something. His character was fun.

Overall the movie was enjoyable. I didn't completely figure out what was going to happen when, so that was nice. I was the youngest male in the theatre. I was also one of four males in the theatre. The average age of the people there collected social security. I felt very out of place. The best part of the whole experience was that there were these two old women sitting behind Jessica and I. All through the previews, any time a "sexy" movie came on, they would talk between themselves and say things like "Another one of those sex movies," or "Is this the movie we are seeing?" or "I cannot believe they would show that." So when we actually stared watching the movie, and it starts off with a sex scene between Kristen Wiig and a rigorous, enthusiastic Jon Hamm, their shock was amusing to me. The movie had quiet a bit of adult language in it. So hearing the women in the movie say those things, again was difficult for these women. Especially when the C word was dropped. Myself, and one other guy were the only ones laughing in the theatre. That made it all the funnier.

Final review. One thumb up.
